UA Ruhr intensifies cooperation with the Dnipro region in Ukraine

In November 2025, UA Ruhr welcomed the rector and vice-rector for international affairs of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, sending a strong signal for the further expansion of German-Ukrainian university cooperation.

In November 2025, Ruhr University Bochum, Dortmund Technical University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen welcomed a high-ranking delegation from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. The visit focused on concrete steps to deepen the strategic partnership with the Dnipro region.
At Ruhr University Bochum, Dortmund Technical University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen, existing contacts were expanded and new areas of cooperation defined. The main areas of focus included mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials science, mathematics, German studies, and water and environmental engineering. Agreements were reached on the preparation of joint research groups, exchange formats for scientists, digital teaching offerings, and concrete support measures for laboratories and research infrastructures in Dnipro.
Another key signal was the exchange with Ina Brandes, Minister of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia. Her support strengthens the sustainable implementation of joint projects and underscores the importance of the partnership for scientific relations between North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine.

In 2026, cooperation will be further intensified within the framework of the DniProNRW – Science Bridge initiative. The project is coordinated by Björn Rothstein (German Studies, Ruhr University Bochum) and Elena Resch in close consultation with the UA Ruhr Liaison Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It enables targeted measures such as equipment donations, training and qualification formats, expanded access to research infrastructures, and additional mobility opportunities for students and researchers.
