The Liaison Office promotes cooperation between the University Alliance Ruhr and Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia, and strengthens the international visibility of the Ruhr region as a centre of science.
Welcome!
The Ruhr University Bochum, the Technical University of Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen have been cooperating strategically and successfully in the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) since 2007. With over 120,000 students and around 1,300 professors, the UA Ruhr is one of the largest and most productive scientific locations in Germany.
To strengthen international cooperation, the UA Ruhr maintains three liaison offices: the Liaison Office Eastern Europe/Central Asia (EECA) is responsible for cooperation in Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia, the Liaison Office New York is responsible for North America, and the Liaison Office São Paulo represents the UA Ruhr in Latin America.
The Liaison Office EECA represents the three partner universities of the UA Ruhr in its target region, increases the visibility of the Ruhr area as an innovative research and science location, and promotes sustainable academic exchange between East and West.

Fedor Stepun Fellowships 2025 Awarded to Seven Outstanding Postdocs

The University Alliance Ruhr is pleased to announce the recipients of the Fedor Stepun Fellowships 2025. This year, seven outstanding postdoctoral researchers have been selected for the fellowship, which supports scholars at risk due to the war in Ukraine. Each fellowship provides a monthly stipend of €1,800 for a six-month research stay within the UA Ruhr.
We sincerely thank the Zimin Foundation for generously funding the program. We are also proud that the University Alliance Ruhr, particularly through the contribution of Elena Resch from the Liaison Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, played a key role in shaping this initiative. The fellow selection was carried out by the newly established Early Career Researchers Board of the UA Ruhr.
The Fedor Stepun Fellowships are designed to offer researchers in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Engineering fields a secure and supportive environment to continue their academic work and prepare proposals for long-term research funding.
The 2025 fellows are hosted across the three member universities of the UA Ruhr-Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, and University of Duisburg-Essen. Together with their academic hosts, they will use their stay to advance research ideas and build sustainable academic careers in Germany.
