Brief profile of the region
The South Caucasus between transformation and geopolitical tension
The South Caucasus is a region of profound political, social and geopolitical dynamics. Georgia and Armenia in particular are undergoing complex transformation processes characterized by reform efforts, regional tensions and a strong focus on international cooperation. In this environment, universities and scientific cooperation play a particularly important role.
Universities as actors of stability and dialog
Science and academic exchange make an important contribution to promoting dialog, institutional resilience and social development in the South Caucasus. The University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) sees its cooperation with partners in Georgia and Armenia as a long-term commitment based on trust, academic freedom and institutional development.
Georgia and Armenia as key partners
Georgia is an important partner in the South Caucasus, particularly in the context of European orientation, university reforms and international networking. Armenia is also gaining in importance as a cooperation partner in research and teaching, not least due to a strong interest in international exchange and the targeted opening up of its academic landscape. The UA Ruhr is strategically expanding its partnerships in both countries.
Cooperation in research, teaching and promoting young talent
Cooperation in the South Caucasus includes joint research projects, innovative teaching formats and measures to promote young academics. Thematically, the focus is on transformation processes, the development of democracy and the rule of law, digitalization, sustainability and regional resilience.
Scientific networking with perspective
The UA Ruhr sees the South Caucasus as an important bridge region between Europe and Asia. Through targeted university and research cooperation, it contributes to strengthening scientific networks, expanding institutional capacities and promoting international academic exchange in the long term.
