On December 1, the Science Summit NRW-Ukraine will bring together representatives from the scientific community, universities, and the political sphere from North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine in Essen. The conference is sponsored by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Science and research have suffered greatly as a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, they play a key role in Ukraine’s resilience and reconstruction—as well as in its path toward the European Union.

Against this backdrop, the Science Summit NRW-Ukraine provides a forum to strengthen scientific ties between North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine. The goal is to connect stakeholders from both countries, highlight existing collaborations, and foster new partnerships. A particular focus is on the activities of the Ruhr University Alliance and the regional partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia and the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The OEZA Liaison Office supports the expansion and further development of the Ruhr University Alliance’s collaborations with Ukrainian universities. A particular focus is on cooperation with universities in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. As part of the DniProNRW project, funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, this cooperation was further expanded in 2025. The Science Summit builds on these existing partnerships while also focusing on scientific cooperation between North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine as a whole.

In addition to high-level political and academic dialogue, selected German-Ukrainian university partnerships will be presented. An accompanying project exhibition will highlight further joint initiatives between universities in North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine and provide a space for exchange and networking.

Participation is free of charge. Since the number of seats is limited, advance registration is required.
