Exploring Water:

Scientific Collaboration for a Sustainable Water Future

Water is a vital resource for the Dnipro region—both in light of the current challenges resulting from the war and with an eye toward future reconstruction. The water research track of DniproNRW Science Bridge strengthens scientific collaboration between the University Alliance Ruhr and Ukrainian partner universities.

The focus is on improving water quality, the restoration of water bodies, and the management of contaminated sites. This involves combining approaches from water and environmental research with modern methods for detecting, monitoring, and assessing environmental pollution.

The exchange between academia and practice enables participating researchers to share methods and experiences and to develop joint research perspectives. The goal is to strengthen existing scientific expertise, establish long-term collaborations between universities, and provide impetus for the sustainable management of water and the environment—both under current conditions and with a view to the future reconstruction of the Dnipro region.

Insights into Innovative Water Research in the Ruhr Region

From September 21 to 25, 2026, the Blue Futures Summer School brought together researchers and students from the Dnipro region and the Ruhr region. The program focused on current issues in water research, the management of contaminated sites, and innovative detection methods. Visits to universities and research institutions within the Ruhr University Alliance provided insights into current research approaches and fostered dialogue on shared challenges and future collaborations.
